Donating to Charity

Green Ideas forEnvironmentally Friendly Hotels

Your favorite charities may not get as much publicity as charities of Oprah Winfrey, but they will benefit the recipients just the same. You don't have to hold charity events; donating your unwanted furniture, fixtures. and equipment will be helpful to the needy, under privileged, and non-profit organizations. Charity donations help you too, by giving you tax deductions you might have "thrown away"; ask your accountant for a charity donations value guide. Of course, another benefit of charity donations is keeping those items out of the landfill.

There are consultants in the International Society of Hospitality Consultants who have helped hotels find recipients for their donations. Jeff Loether, President of Electro-Media, provides one great example; he connected various vendors, consultants, and contractors who gathered used and new sound equipment to donate to the Helen Keller National Center for Deaf-Blind Youths and Adults building during construction. It was a win:win for everyone involved, and what a great way to re-purpose components that aren't being used.

There are every day items used in your hotel that go to waste, unless you donate them. As you upgrade your hotel, the items you are removing need a new home. What can you add to this list? There have to many more items than this you upgrade and can donate.
